Spills, DOGM Administration & Processes Presented at O&G Collaborative

The October 12 Uinta Basin Oil & Gas Collaborative Meeting featured speakers from the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining, Department of Environmental Quality and TriCounty Health Department.  Approximately 100 industry, regulatory agency and county personnel met at the Duchesne Event Center.  This quarterly meeting is coordinated by UDOGM as a means to further the coordination and collaboration between all the various industry stakeholders in the Uinta Basin.

New EPA Region 8 Director Selected

President Trump has named Doug Benevento as the EPA Region 8 Director.  Region 8 oversees all environmental regulation in Utah and most other Rocky Mountain States.  Mr. Benevento, a Colorado native, has currently been serving as Director of Energy Policy for Xcel Energy.  He has also served as head of Colorado's Department of Public Health and Environment.

October Board of Oil, Gas and Mining

The Utah Board of Oil, Gas and Mining will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, in the auditorium of the Department of Natural Resources, 1594 West North Temple, Salt Lake City.  The meeting will be streamed live on the Department of Natural Resources YouTube channel.

Non-Compete Legislation Open House Scheduled

Some UPA Members may be interested in the ongoing issue surrounding non-compete legislation.  The following invitation to an October 24th informational open house has been circulated by the Salt Lake Chamber.

Employment Law Seminars Available at UBTech

The Uintah Basin Technology College in Vernal is offering two upcoming seminars aimed at assisting local employers stay in compliance with rapidly changing employment law and practices.  

Safety Discussed at Community Dinner

UPA's October 12 Uinta Basin Community Outreach Dinner in Roosevelt gathered a mix of approximately 80 industry and community members.  A special thanks to our continuing partnership with the Utah Royalty Owners Association, and Uintah and Duchesne counties who co-sponsor the events.  We also greatly appreciate EP Energy and Crescent Point Energy for sponsoring dinner.  

Comments Sought on BLM Lease Sale

The Utah State BLM Office is seeking comment on two environmental documents - a preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) and a Determination of NEPA Adequacy (DNA) - evaluating the offering of about 51,400 acres of federal minerals in southeastern Utah for oil and gas leasing.

Natural Resources & Environmental Quality Appropriations Subcommittee

In an effort to place more emphasis on legislators' responsibilities as budget appropriators, a couple of the regularly scheduled legislative interim days have been replaced with full-day appropriations subcommittees.  That will be the case on Wednesday, October 18.

Seven County Infrastructure Coalition Update

UPA attended the Seven County Infrastructure Coalition's monthly meeting held October 6 in Price.  The Coalition consists of Uintah, Duchesne, Daggett, Carbon, Emery, San Juan and Sevier Counties and is represented by a member of each county's commission.  The purpose of the Coalition is to jointly foster the development of infrastructure in these rural counties to facilitate economic development, jobs and growth.
